January 2014 Dairy update

Wednesday, 22 January 2014 at 12:24pm

It hasn’t been the greatest weather for holiday makers, but good rainfall in most of the country meant this summer has been great for farmers.   It has been reported that all regions had excellent pasture growth rates and good feed conditions continue in the South Island.

There has been an indication that milk flows are 3-6% ahead of last year’s figures.  Our farms are rapidly increasing export milk volumes, and with low feed and energy costs predicted we will be able to continue increasing production at low cost while remaining competitive on the world market.

In January Global Dairy Trade auctions added value products lifted in price significantly.  As part of the package of added value products offered, butter, cheddar, milk protein concentrate and rennet casein lifted in value by between +4% and +10%.

The dryer months are ahead of us, so our farm managers will be putting plans in place to ensure they can maximise production and profitability this season without compromising next season.
