NZ Tech Week Celebrating AgriTech

Monday, 14 May 2018 at 12:30pm

From May 19th-27th New Zealand will have its annual ‘Techweek’.  Beginning in 2012, Tech Innovation week acknowledges and celebrates new technologies being developed in New Zealand. This extract is from the official Techweek website:

The intention behind Techweek is simple – New Zealand’s technology and innovation sectors are growing rapidly, and Techweek fosters that growth by providing the national ecosystem with a week-long opportunity for connection and cross-pollination, and an independent platform through which to amplify New Zealand’s unique and inspiring innovation stories to the world.

In the years to come, Techweek’s vision is for New Zealand to be globally recognised as a beautiful country where world-leading solutions are born. It’s not just about showcasing leading edge technology, but amplifying brilliant ideas that are solving the biggest global challenges – innovation that’s good for the world.

As part of Techweek, Agritech has been highlighted as being hugely important to New Zealand’s economy.  New Zealand has a global reputation as a producer of high-quality meat and dairy products, our agritech companies are also becoming global leaders in areas such as herd improvement software, pasture mapping and management.

NZTech chief executive Graeme Muller stated this week that, “Digital agriculture, in the form of precision farming, big data, sensor technology, robotics and drones, delivers a new potential for productivity gains across rural New Zealand,”.

Recognising the importance of Agritech to New Zealand’s economy, an ‘Agritech New Zealand Network’ is being established to bring together the different stakeholder groups to build a more cohesive, effective and collaborative NZ agritech ecosystem.  Key talks will be held around the country during 2018.

Agritech innovation will also be showcased at the coming New Zealand Agricultural Fieldays, including the University of Waikato’s research on artificial intelligence in the future of farming.
